Key Planning Points

✓ Provide current overall height, width and length when a truck has meaningful modifications.

Measure the truck as it sits today

Factory dimensions are only a starting point after modification. Photos with a tape measure or a clear side/front view can help when the exact configuration is unusual.

Why trailer fit changes

Auto carriers have finite deck width, deck height and spacing between vehicles. A lift can raise the truck’s center of gravity and overall loaded height; oversized tires can increase width; long beds and crew cabs consume more deck length. The assigned provider has to confirm that combination before dispatch.

When the move may leave ordinary auto-carrier equipment

Some modified pickups can move on conventional open equipment. Others may require a flatbed, step-deck or another specialized setup because of size or weight. Phoenix does not label a truck “oversize” from one modification alone; the actual measurements and planned route determine the equipment conversation.

Federal securement changes with vehicle weight

FMCSA’s cargo-securement rules include a specific framework for automobiles, light trucks and vans at 10,000 pounds or less, while individual vehicles above 10,000 pounds fall under the heavy vehicle/equipment framework. The assigned motor carrier is responsible for applying the correct legal securement method.

Can a lifted truck go on a normal open car carrier?

Some can; heavily modified trucks may not. The current dimensions, weight and the carrier’s deck configuration have to be checked before assignment.

Why do you need measurements if I provide the year and model?

Factory specifications do not capture aftermarket lifts, tires, racks, bumpers, dual rear wheels or other modifications that change trailer fit.

Will a lifted truck always cost more?

Not automatically, but reduced carrier/equipment compatibility, added space or specialized equipment can change market price. A shipment-specific quote is more reliable than a universal surcharge.
