Shipment Protection & Carrier Cargo Coverage

Phoenix Auto Dispatch does not publish one universal insurance limit because cargo coverage belongs to the independent motor carrier physically transporting the vehicle. The assigned carrier’s actual policy and shipment documents govern the coverage available for a specific move.

How carrier cargo limits are handled

Carrier limits vary by operation and equipment. In the current network, smaller/local haulers may carry cargo limits around $100,000. For long-haul assignments Phoenix generally seeks carrier cargo limits of at least $250,000. Enclosed and specialty carriers may carry $500,000 or higher limits. These are planning/assignment standards—not a promise that every shipment has the same limit.

Before pickup, the applicable assigned-carrier documentation should be confirmed for the shipment. If the vehicle’s value or risk profile requires a particular limit, tell Phoenix before carrier assignment so that requirement can be considered.

Condition records matter

  1. Photograph the vehicle before pickup, including all sides and any existing damage.
  2. Review the pickup condition inspection/Bill of Lading before signing.
  3. At delivery, inspect the vehicle before accepting the final condition record when practical.
  4. If new damage is alleged, note it on the carrier documentation when appropriate, take clear photos and notify the carrier and Phoenix promptly.
  5. Preserve the quote/order, carrier information, Bill of Lading, photos and communications for the claim process.

Who handles a cargo claim

The assigned motor carrier’s cargo policy and claim process govern transport damage coverage. Phoenix can assist with communication and shipment records, but Phoenix does not replace the carrier’s insurer or promise payment of a cargo claim.

Coverage should be shipment-specific

Avoid relying on a generic phrase such as “fully insured.” Ask what carrier is assigned, what cargo limit applies, and whether any exclusions or special vehicle-value considerations should be addressed before pickup.
