1. Ocean booking and handoff party

Do not treat the port as a normal curbside pickup. The ocean carrier controls who can present or collect the vehicle and what proof they need.

2. Hawaii-side identity and authorization

4. Fuel, belongings and removable equipment

Matson's current preparation guidance requires fuel between one-eighth and one-quarter tank, not exceeding one-quarter, and generally prohibits personal effects outside its Tacoma/Alaska exception. Other carriers may differ.

5. Mainland motor-carrier handoff

6. EV/PHEV and modified vehicles

Current ocean-carrier acceptance can change the entire itinerary. Matson currently suspends EV/PHEV acceptance, while Pasha publishes conditional acceptance for specific situations. Modified, oversized, low-clearance or damaged vehicles also need carrier-specific review before the land leg is committed.
